The correct answer is, it depends.
The Pi5 PSU does not work with the early revision 1.1 Pi4. It should work with revision 1.2 onwards though, the revision that has the USB-C PD fix. I believe the original Pi4 8GB was revision 1.4 so this should work fine with the Pi5 PSU.
