I found something maybe strange. The boot folder contents on the NVME OS is different than the same folder on the working OS on the SD CARD. And the firmware subdirectory is empty also. I will reflash the NVME and when it successfully boots, I will follow the same process and look at it before the apt-get upgrade and post what I find back here.
