you need to provide more info.
- what power supply ? (highly recommend the official)
- what PI-OS did you load?
- what else did you load? (you mentioned home assistant?)

Just FYI: updating the bootloader should result in a solid GREEN screen. (success)
then you have to re-flash the card with the PI-OS

1) the blinking red usually means power. I hope you are not using a cell charger, or anything like that. use the official supply if you can.
2) try a fresh copy of PI-OS, see if that works. (i'd load PI-OS with Desktop)

- I used normal phone cable for time being (it seemed to work with that), it would start but it would notify of low charging until i used a different cable, then it was all fine.
- I load Home Assitant OS 14.0 (RPI-4/400). After i couldn't get the raspberry to work I tried the Bootloader (Pi 4 Family)

1) Good to know. the person who lent me the raspberry just said to use a usb-c charger because he forgot to give the official one. So ill wait to get that one then i guess for christmas when i see him again.
2) I will try that, see if it maybe works
